Travelogue >Of shortcuts, Hairpin bends, Biryanis, Rainbows and Butterflies..... Day 2

Woke up with a stiff neck... Man that's painful. Rocky was very enthusiastic about everybody getting up and having tea. I guess he slept well unlike me. Praveen woke up with a worse cold. In fact he was awake long time back when an old man started to scream outside our door " Watchman.. watchman.. and then louder WWWAAAATTCCHMANN Sudd Tanni Everlya (hot water not Available ( in Tamil))..." I was rudely awakened that time too but I tried to sleep all the same. Praveen was sniffing and trying his level best to be comfortable in a sofa. His cold was none the better. I realised that due to my stiff neck I was having the beginnings of a headache. Anyway that was taken care of with a hot cup of coffee and some light breakfast provided by Navin. Karthik did a good job of giving my stiff neck a gentle but firm massage, the same when applied to praveen made him diplomatically shriek at bumboo. It was concluded that bumboo could massage gals better .. well good for him he he !!!

The whole place looked beautiful in the morning. We took some time to take some snapshots while the guys fooled around with this and that. Typical of RTMC group.

After everybody having our coffee and breakfast, we headed out to the lake nearby and walked around it admiring the beauty of the surroundings and taking some nice shots around the medicinal herb garden and chasing butterflies. Boating service is available but only if you are patient for a long queue. I must tell you that this place is so full of butterflies that one feels that one is somewhere mystical. So many of them and so beautiful. Everywhere you look you can see the colourful flutter of their little wings.

We could not unfortunately, do the trek up the Swamimalai hills due to lack of time but we got to know that Navin would arrange a barbeque party and send up with his people up the hills when we came by next time. That definitely ensured a second trip for me and Rocky to this place. Navin was the most helpful guy we found and as we were making arrangements to leave I was also introduced to Betty his pet Dobberman. She was a cutie.

He is also planning to construct a swimming pool which would be a great idea for the visitors. By the way this is in no way connected to the Country Club. Its just a local joint and very resourceful.

Well all good things come to an end and we all had to say goodbye here planning for lunch on the way in Vaniyamwadi. This time we decided to stick to the highway which was short and clean. As we came down the Yelagiri hill , the view was spectacular and doing the 14 hairpin bends in the day time when it was dry was a pleasure. At the foot of the hills, we stopped to plan our route and I took some time off to admire some more butterflies... I could not get enough of them... I was just going to touch them as i saw two kids doing it... Praveen warned me "STOP !! don't touch the butterfly it will die..." oh no !! I had just touched them for a fraction of a second and realised my mistake ... well i hope that little fly is well and good....

We all had lunch in a small hotel and filled ourselves with Chicken Biryani, Keema roti, etc and here we seperated from the Madras bulls and headed through the highway to Krishnagiri. the highway was good and we were ripping. The highway is a part of the Golden Quadrilateral which is being planned to connect the four corners of India and it will be a smooth ride when that gets finished. There were points on the highway which was rough(changing lanes from left to right) and well that was okay i think since the majority of the ride was smooth. On the way to Krishnagiri, Praveen's fuse decided to die which he fixed at Krishnagiri. We were making good time and it was a record for RTMC guys to be on schedule so we were very happy, though the ride through smooth road was kind off painful on the behind. Rough roads always make the ride pleasurable, don't ask me why and how but that's the way it works for me .....

We reached Hosur and then took a deviation from there into Atibelei and then to Sarjapur Road and VIOLA !! we reached the Sarjapur Ring Road junction at 6 pm. Then we got to know that Kj's accelerator cable snapped 4 kms behind us and they were fixing it. Rocky and me were kind of tired so we decided to head for home and Praveen decided that he would wait for them or meet them at their stopping point..... Last we heard of them was they were having chai at Sandeep place and well to sum it all up it was another great ride with some confusions, some surprises and some lessons well learnt...

Confusion........... never trust a local who does not know his way (We got to trust our instincts and the map )
Shortcuts........... are not always great but they do yield good scenic rides... A new road is always nice to explore
Surprises........... Never underestimate a hotelier just because he seems to be your last option...
Lessons............. Never open your mouth in a place where you do not know the language and patience and a sweet disposition always pays... so what if you have to drag things through when there is a messy situation and yes please be aware of old men and women crossing roads when you pass by villages ... Specially in a bus stop. And yes maybe for STD 500 guys, you could carry a spare fuse with you...

A good ride dudes !!!

Here's looking forward to some more unridden miles ...........

ADIOS AMIGOS !!!!

PS: We highly recommend Yelagiri Hills Country Club for your stay in Yelagiri Hills. You will be welcomed with open arms from Navin and he will make your stay as comfortable as possible with campfire and all the works. You just have to ask. The rooms are 800 for 3 persons and 100/- per extra bed, food and booze extra but it did not come up to much if you ask me. He is Jack of all trades so park yourself here fellow riders and you will not be disappointed. Another point is that the lake is just 5 minutes walk from this place.
